Athaliah, Hezekiah and The Assyrian Captivity

Yes, you saw that right. We covered it all this morning. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. There were 5 students and 4 of them were very interested in it all. The 5th one wasn't. I've talked about him on here for years now. He is growing up and maturing in many ways but he craves attention. He wants all eyes on him at all times. His distractions are always difficult but with so much to cover this morning, it was was too much for me. I told him that if he didn't want to listen, he didn't have to but he had to be quiet and not distract anymore. The rest of the class he put his head down on the table and pretended to be asleep. Class went on smoothly from then on. It broke my heart to see him so ready to shut the Bible out. I just hope that while he was being defiant and pretending to be asleep that he heard what was said. He's such a smart boy.

Our class went something like this:

We reviewed the story of how God lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Then, we read from the Bible about the Assyrian captivity 2 Kings 17:19-41.

Then we read about Athaliah 2 Kings 11.

Then we read about Hezekiah 2 Kings 18-20. We didn't read it all. We read the beginning of his reign and about God giving him 15 more years to live.

We had a little time left so we reviewed Psalm 1 and let each of them try it on their own. They do pretty well, except for the last verse. Hopefully they'll have that down next time.
